An Appeal from Center Right Bloggers

Many thanks to N.Z .Bear for putting this together.

We are bloggers with boatloads of opinions, and none of us come close to agreeing with any other one of us all of the time. But we do agree on this: The new leadership in the House of Representatives needs to be thoroughly and transparently free of the taint of the Jack Abramoff scandals, and beyond that, of undue influence of K Street.

We are not naive about lobbying, and we know it can and has in fact advanced crucial issues and has often served to inform rather than simply influence Members.

But we are certain that the public is disgusted with excess and with privilege. We hope the Hastert-Dreier effort leads to sweeping reforms including the end of subsidized travel and other obvious influence operations. Just as importantly, we call for major changes to increase openness, transparency and accountability in Congressional operations and in the appropriations process.

As for the Republican leadership elections, we hope to see more candidates who will support these goals, and we therefore welcome the entry of Congressman John Shadegg to the race for Majority Leader. We hope every Congressman who is committed to ethical and transparent conduct supports a reform agenda and a reform candidate. And we hope all would-be members of the leadership make themselves available to new media to answer questions now and on a regular basis in the future.

I'm glad by Rhampton

A statement like this is needed. Let's hope the status quo is paying attention.

Blount and Boehner by Scorpion410

There's a couple of real revolutionaries, LOL.

Same old, same old.

I wish we could empty Congress and start over.

Seriously, though, I'm wondering how we "little people" can get this as the proverbial 2x4 to catch the Rep. leadership's attention?

As, hopefully, will other RedStaters with their own blogs who support this.  It's also important that, while at least some of the signers clearly support Shadegg, we make clear that the broader cause here is reform.

Fresh Leadership that has the full weight of the Republican faithful in tandam with a desire to pursue the fundamental values of the conservative party will lead to great legislative and electoral victories in 2006!

Hopefully, the House of Representatives will pursue comprehensive income tax reform, immigration reform, and fully support the war on terror.

We at Thespis Journal are proud to join this distinguished list of bloggers advocating for a meaningful change in leadership in the February elections.

for this appears to be growing.  I gave my thumbs up, then commented at the above and was near the 200 mark.

We should anticipate harsh criticism against Shadegg, too, should his campaign gain strength. I imagine several lines of attack from lefties, liberals, partisan Democrats and the MSM in all their manifestations:

  1. House GOP turns to the hard right for new leadership; new majority leader is outside the mainstream.
  2. He's just as much of the culture of corruption as everyone else. (Doesn't matter how sparse the evidence is, the charge will be levied. See this Arizona Republic story for the basic formula.)
  3. Shaken by sinking polls and rising prosecutions, House Republicans are running scared -- but even new leadership cannot clean the taint. Because, you see, they're really scared, for good reason.
  4. He's the candidate of self-important bloggers. Silly, silly people, these bloggers.
  5. Just another middle-aged white male. Episcopalian, to boot.

While we conservatives are unlikely to be shaken by the usual calumny, I could see moderates in the Republican caucus moved by the assaults. So, while stressing principle and conservatism in arguing for Shadegg, the message also has to be one of reform -- and don't let the media cast Shadegg in the same light as the Delay crew.

No great insights here, I know, but we do need to anticipate the attacks and prepare for them.

But Scott Ott wrote it up funnier than you.  :-)

There.  That's for that annoying ad.

Blunt... by tyler

...do you mean Blunt?  I'm personally a Boehner / Shadegg fan, but if you're going to knock the guy, at least get his name right.
